"Another fantastic show I saw over the past few days was Jeanne MacDonald's Peggy Lee tribute show at The Metropolitan Room on Saturday night at 10:00 pm. I can sum up the show in one word: "Flawless!" I have been a true-blue Jeanne MacDonald fan since I heard her NYC debut so many years ago at Eighty Eight's... Jeanne has come a long way - a Saturday night at the Metropolitan Room and a totally sold-out show! It was an awesome performance, and again I was wearing "goose-bumps" nearly the whole hour. I am addicted not just to her vocals (so fresh, so clean, so fully packed) but also to her charming, honest delivery. And you know right away she loves what she is doing, and would give this kind of "dead-on" performance if there were just 6 in the audience. Rick Jensen has come up with some creative and original arrangements for this show and theirs is a truly a incomparable pairing. By the way this show sold out on the 10th, best to reserve your seats today." CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE #071104 - Monday, November 12, 2007 http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com
"As Miss Peggy Lee had done, Jeanne MacDonald has surrounded herself with fine musicians for her new show "Jeanne MacDonald Celebrates Miss Peggy Lee in 'Come Back to Me'" at the Metropolitan Room, NYC: Latin Grammy nominated percussionist Mayra Casales, internationally renowned bassist Jennifer Vincent, and multi-award winning songwriter, arranger and musical director Rick Jensen. With the above musicians, and an obvious, extensive amount of preparation and innate musical talent, MacDonald and her musical director have put together one of the finest tribute shows to a singer I've seen in quite a while... it is with great pleasure that I can recommend this show even to die-hard fans of Miss Lee... singing with her eyes as much as her voice and spreading her arms in a welcoming gesture that makes you fall in love with her... She captured the minimalist style of Lee without obvious imitation, and her voice is as inviting as Lee's with a 'come to me' feeling which is hard to resist... it was at this time that I realized that I couldn't take my eyes off this singer. The seduction had begun. She was allowing the songs to tell the story of Lee... One of MacDonald's finest performances was a powerful and enthralling rendering of the "Black Coffee" (Burke/Webster) which highlighted her own versatility and jazz leanings... An eight-song medley of Peggy's hits... utilized the various styles of La Lee and showed the amazing versatility she possessed, as well as the artistic accomplishment of MacDonald's own musicianship. Much like Lee herself, MacDonald is an all around performer, you immediately come to her as a friend and respect her greatly as a performer... when MacDonald brings this show back in the Spring, as she must - Don't miss it!" Gregg Culling - online review/chat boards ======================== MacDonald has earned extensive recognition for her performances both in and out of New York City. She was the 2008 MAC Award Winner for Female Vocalist and 2008 NY Nightlife Finalist, both of which she previously received in 2004. She has earned both the BACK STAGE Bistro and the MAC Hanson Awards, and while performing on the stage at Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2005, Jeanne was presented with the coveted Julie Wilson Award for excellence in cabaret. MacDonald’s debut CD “Company,” produced and arranged by long time musical director/arranger Rick Jensen, received outstanding critical praise and the MAC Nomination for Recording of the Year. While Jeanne appears frequently at some of NYC finest venues, she first developed her artistry at the celebrated Bradstan Country Hotel in White Lake, NY where she recorded her CD “Live at the Bradstan” and returns each Labor Day weekend for her annual Bradstan Inn Cabaret appearance. Jeanne’s CDs are available at www.cdbaby.com. “Live At The Bradstan” is also available on iTunes. |
